The House of Representatives has resumed its weekly plenary sittings following the annual recess that began in late July 2024.

Upon reconvening on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, who presided over the plenary, read a correspondence from President Bola Tinubu regarding a Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). He also approved the Votes and Proceedings from the plenary held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Subsequently, the House observed a moment of silence before adjourning plenary and other legislative engagements in honour of the late Senator (Dr.) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, CON, who until his demise was a Senator of the 10th National Assembly.

Senator Ubah was a distinguished lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District and served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream). He passed away in late July 2024 in the United Kingdom at the age of 52.

In a statement following his shocking demise, the House described Dr. Ubah as a dedicated public servant known for his boundless energy, patriotism, philanthropy, and unwavering commitment to effecting positive change in his home state. The gesture of adjourning plenary in honour of a deceased member is a respected parliamentary tradition in Nigeria's National Assembly.

The House will resume normal legislative business on Wednesday, focused on delivering on its key priorities outlined in the Legislative Agenda and ensuring effective service delivery to Nigerians.

Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr.
