The House of Representatives on Tuesday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women - Nigeria Member (OCEDAWNM) to enhance legislative interventions addressing issues affecting women.

Just over a week ago, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, endorsed the Parliamentary Development Programme for the 10th Assembly, sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). An initiative focused on capacity building for members and staff of the House of Representatives.

The MoU with OCEDAWNM underscores the House's commitment to advancing goals of inclusion and affirmative action for good governance as outlined in the People’s House Legislative Agenda. The collaboration also reaffirms our dedication to rebuilding public.

“We are here again this afternoon to enter another working agreement with the United Nations group on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women to promote the vision of our Legislative Agenda on inclusion and affirmative action for good governance.

“There is no better way to underscore the dedication of the House towards rebuilding the confidence of our people through pragmatic citizen’s engagement and capacity strengthening,” the Speaker stated.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen has played a crucial role in making these partnerships possible by approving their respective MoUs. His support for these initiatives underscore the House's proactive approach in addressing gender discrimination and promoting equality.

These efforts are aligned with our legislative mandate to fulfill global and regional obligations while addressing local needs and contexts. The House of Representatives remains steadfast in providing legislative support and actions to ensure the success of these partnerships.
