The House of Representatives on Wednesday, played host to a delegation from the United States Embassy in Nigeria led by the Chargé d'Affaires, Mr. David Greene.
Received by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen PhD, discussion between both parties bothered on the strategic relationship between Nigeria and the US.
In his remarks at the meeting, Speaker Abbas in urged the United States Government to assist Nigeria in tackling insecurity and corruption. According to the Speaker, the failure of Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world, could have a global impact.
Restating Nigeria’s status as one of the few African countries that have adopted the American style of democracy, he added that the U.S.has been Nigeria’s strongest economic partner for a very long time.
The Speaker further informed the delegation about the various parliamentary friendship groups created by the 10th House after inauguration. The number 4 citizen noted that the U.S. was the number one country identified to enable Nigeria’s legislators partner and collaborate with American lawmakers on ideas and knowledge sharing.
“We look forward to further collaboration with the US. We express our profound gratitude to the US for her support to Nigeria through development partners and other donor agencies,” Speaker Abbas remarked.
